In the summer of 2021, the Park won the Green Flag Award for the fourteenth consecutive year. The Green Flag Award Scheme recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. It was launched in 1996 and it provides a national benchmark for parks and green spaces.

In making their judgement, the judges considered welcome afforded to visitors; health and safety; cleanliness and maintenance; sustainability; conservation and heritage; community involvement; marketing and how the Park is managed.

As in previous years, the award was won through the hard work of the staff with significant contributions in time and effort from Friends of the Park who volunteered for conservation tasks on a regular basis.

This award was granted by CPRE in October 2010 for all the improvements that staff and Friends of the Park had made to the environment. Previously in 2009, the Park had received a Highly Commended Award for the clearance of the orchard site ahead of planting.
